Kent Roller Girls v London Rockin Rollers

April 6 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

On 6th April Kent Roller Girls will be taking on London Rockin Rollers at Active Life at The Bay Sports Arena.

Roller derby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with new leagues forming all over the globe. A full contact sport played on quad roller skates, this sport was revived in its current format in the 2000s when a female-lead grassroots movement of teams with a DIY ethos started appearing in the USA. Moving away from it’s choreographed 1950s roots, this sport is seriously hard hitting and competitive, but still holds onto the DIY mentality, with leagues run ‘by the skater, for the skater’.

Both Kent’s A and B teams will be playing in this double header against LRR’s A and B Teams – this should be a tough game for both teams, and an exciting double-header to watch!

Come along and experience the electric atmosphere for yourselves, at a great venue with plenty of free parking, charity fundraising and local craft stalls to browse through (and a cheap bar!).

Tickets £8 in Advance or £12 on the door. Under 12s FREE

B team game starts 1pm
A team game starts 2.45pm

PARKING – There are 2 car parks available at The Bay Sports Arena – Gate 3 and Gate 4. Both will be open for this event!

Roller derby is a full contact sport played on quad rollerskates. Four blockers from each team try to stop the jammers from passing their hips which is how they score points as they skate around an oval track in periods of 2 minutes called jams. The first person to complete an initial pass of the opposing teams blockers is called the Lead Jammer. Blockers can use their shoulders and hips to remove the opposition from the track, making the game like a hard hitting version of rugby on skates with a human ball!

Founded in 2010, Kent Roller Girls are Kent’s longest-established roller derby league. Founder Demi Lition can be seen playing alongside the rest of our All Stars – come along and support your local roller derby!

If you are over 18 and fancy giving roller derby a go? We are recruiting! Come along to our FREE open day on 10th January to find out more before you see us in action! More information here: Kent Roller Girls Free Open Day. The team are also always on the look out for Referees and officials (both on and off skates) and can teach you all you need to know.

Follow Kent Roller Girls on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information.
