Now in its 3rd year, Broadreach Records are proud to bring you the Herne Bay Jazz and Swing Fest with top-level UK jazz and swing music, on Sunday, August 18th 2019, 4pm until 10pm on the Herne Bay Pier Stage, Herne Bay, Kent, CT6 5JQ. Free entry – no tickets necessary – because we think Jazz & Swing should be for everyone.
Their headliner this year is the 2018 Parliamentary Jazz Award Winner, Ian Shaw. They are also thrilled to present top trombonist Mark Nightingale (John Dankworth/Frank Sinatra), sax player Andy Panayi (Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney), guitarist Carl Orr (Billy Cobham, Sting) and vocalist/compere/Festival Director Kai Hoffman (Ronnie Scott’s, Blue Note). Soho-late-night-legends The Fallen Heroes will finish off the night with their authentic New Orleans Rhythm ‘n’ Blues played with a London twist.
This event is free thanks to sponsors Canterbury City Council, Herne Bay Pier Trust, Vivien of Holloway fashion brand and private donations.
Why not come dressed for a day (& night) at the seaside or get jazzed up in your swing suits or high tops and bobby socks. Bring a chair or a blanket if you like; there are also a (limited) number of seats available, provided by the Pier Trust.Refreshments including excellent fish & chips, local ales etc. are available from the pier’s many beach hut purveyors.
Last year’s festival was enjoyed by over 6,000 people and the organisers are hoping to make 2019 even bigger.
Broadreach Records has presented jazz and vintage music-based events for over a decade, including the London Time Out Critic’s Choice club night ‘Live & Let Jive’ at Ronnie Scott’s from 2008-2016 – called “London’s coolest hepcat hangout” by The Stage, and featured in the Metro and Evening Standard Newspapers.
